Each piece gets a compact assessment — visible features, most likely stone type, immediate flags — and the package closes with a summary that ranks which items deserve a closer look first.

The summary is where the money is: pieces whose photos contradict their labels, pieces worth a lab’s time, and pieces that are common as dirt — sorted before you spend big on any of them.

What will the summary

tell me?

Three sorting questions, answered across the whole set: what is consistent, what is surprising, and what needs a lab before you spend another euro on it.

Labels versus
observations

Where a piece’s accompanying label or story disagrees with what the photographs show, the mismatch is called out directly — with the evidence that contradicts it.

Flags worth a lab
referral

Pieces with features suggesting treatments, synthetics or valued origin get named as lab candidates, with the specific test — RI, spectroscopy, certification — that would settle each.

Priority ranking
for a second look

The pieces are ranked by how much a closer look could change the picture — highest upside and highest risk first, common material grouped at the end.

The most valuable part of the report was what it ruled out. Knowing my “emerald” was almost certainly dyed quartz saved me from an expensive mistake at auction.

Nothing needs posting. Poorly photographed pieces are listed for reshoots rather than silently skipped — you only pay for pieces the photographs can actually support.

What do you need from me to start?

Clear photographs of the piece from a few angles, in daylight if possible, plus anything you know about its history.

A phone camera is enough — no special equipment is required.

Assessments are delivered by email, in English, anywhere in Europe. Assessment Standards Turnaround is typically two to three working days from submission.

For anything urgent, contact us before ordering and we will confirm the timing.

Can you tell me what my stone is worth?

No. We assess visible characteristics and likely stone types — we do not value, appraise or certify. For a formal valuation, we will say so in the report and suggest the right professional to approach.

Is this a certificate?

No. An assessment is a structured, evidence-based written opinion on what your photographs show. It is not a lab certificate, and we never present it as one.

What if the photos are not good enough?

Need an adjustment to use our service — larger print, extra time, or help with photographs? Email our team at info@crystalmyths.uk and we will arrange it at no extra cost. We will tell you — free of charge — exactly which shots would let us continue, before you pay anything.

Do you keep my photographs private?

Yes. Photographs are used only to prepare your assessment and are deleted on request. We never publish client photographs.

Pieces assessed under the multi-item package appear only in your summary, never anywhere public.
